My Students

I am a teacher with a degree in Educational Technology. I have a group of 25 students, but I am in need of technology that THEY can use on a daily basis to augment the lessons I present in class. Additionally, the DSi is equipped with a camera that we can use for many lessons during the year.

My students live in a military community that sees many kids come and go throughout the year.

They are hard working and very respectful. We have worked hard to make our school one that we are extremely proud of. Students love coming in each day and most feel a strong sense of pride in their community. One thing that is sometimes lacking in their education is technology. Specifically technology THEY can use. Like most schools, we have a computer lab, but with over 500 students, my class only has access to it 2 times a week for 30 minutes. That is not nearly enough time to accomplish all I want to with them in uses of technology.

My Project

The Nintendo DSi is such an amazing device and it is very inexpensive for what you get with it. In addition to being able to play many educational games (like Math Blasters, The Best of Tests, Brain Age I and II, Scribblenauts, Picross, and more) it also functions as a Digital Camera and a Web Browser. We only have one computer in the room and it is a teacher laptop that students may not use (policy). Using a DSi student can research words and their meanings, take sharp pictures during various lessons (like real life geometry in Math), play a large variety of Educational Games (all of which I already have ready to go), and have the Internet at their fingertips - ready to research and explore various topics in Science and Social Studies (Electricity, Crayfish, Minerals, Solar System, The Regions of our United States, and the rich history of our own great state!) I have the lessons ready to go - All the students need are a couple of DSi's to unlock some their potential!

I am always looking for innovative, inexpensive ways to bring technology into the hands of the students I teach.

The Nintendo DSi is the most cost effective way of achieving that goal. I teach educators the value of using games in the classroom to reinforce various skills (both traditional and video) and there is much documented research that video games and simulations are an effective way, when used correctly, to motive students in ways a book or lecture cannot always do. Thank You!
