My Students

Did you text someone today, or maybe you sent them an email, or better yet, you used your new cell phone to call, email and review work information? My students have not had the privilege of having the Internet and are unable to play the educational games available.

Have you ever been to the beach, felt the hot sand under your feet or felt the salty water on your legs?

Well my students haven't had that opportunity. They are underprivileged and constantly in need of clothing, shoes and other materials in the classroom to help their school day go smoothly. They are kind children that are willing to work; however, they lack good communication skills that contribute to working well with others. The children attend a 97% free and reduced lunch school that is currently under strategic staffing for not meeting North Carolina state test goals.

My Project

My students are in need of 2 ipod touches that are able to download free applications for reading games that use sounds, letter naming and word making in order to work on their phonemic awareness. Students will also be able to use these for math downloadable games that work on number sense, patterns, addition and subtraction. Students will use these ipods daily to enhance their learning in phonemic awareness and number sense. Students will also become technologically prepared for the 21st century.

The donations for this project will help children in an underprivileged environment become technologically savvy.

They will be able to learn in a different way so that they will be able to succeed and compete with other children from privileged backgrounds when they are looking for employment. These donations will help in fulfilling my philosophy of "doing all I can, so they can learn all they can, in order to be all they can".

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
