My Students

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." (Benjamin Franklin) Encouraging a student to solve problems that are presented in class helps to build a foundation of learning that lasts a lifetime.

My students are bright, curious students who have had their natural inquisitive nature hindered by their learning disabilities.

They must overcome challenges on a daily basis that most of us would consider simple tasks. So much of their energy is spent on the steps in the process of solving a problem that they are often frustrated before they can answer their own question. For example, some of my students spend a tremendous amount of energy decoding words in an effort to comprehend basic reading passages. Having portable CD players would allow each student to work at his own pace when completing textbook assignments, doing research for a project, or completing a sustained silent reading or standardized test.

My Project

Many students with special needs burn up so much energy with basic procedures that they become frustrated and never complete higher-level processing such as comparing and contrasting things or finding patterns. Please help me level the playing field. By helping to purchase these needed supplies, my students will be able to move beyond their disabilities and focus on their abilities.

Remember, some of the brightest inventors had disabilities.
