My Students

"Space... the final frontier." Many people don't understand how biology and space exploration are closely tied together, but we've made great advances in medicine by studying the effects of gravity on the human body. My goal is to use this knowledge to help my students understand human bones.

My students are 10th, 11th, and 12th graders in Wisconsin.

They are enrolled in Anatomy & Physiology because they are interested in health care as a career or because they just love science. To inspire them to even greater heights, I offer as many hands-on experiences as I can. With a department budget shrinking by 10% each of the last 5 years, I am not able to offer as many labs as I used to. I feel strongly that, with the difficult job market and economic outlook, we need to make sure that our students are more prepared than ever before - and the way to do that is by giving them the best science education possible.

My Project

Using the BonE Voyage to Mars kit from Carolina Biological Supply, my students will investigate the anatomy and physiology of human bones. They will be preparing slides, analyzing the structure of bone cells, and investigating the effects of gravity on human height. These hands-on, highly relevant and engaging experiences will greatly increase what they are able to learn - and retain - about the human skeletal system.

Donating to our project will help tomorrow's doctors, nurses, lawyers, engineers, teachers, and citizens better understand the human body.

By engaging kids in science labs, we are engaging them in critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills that will help them to better solve the problems of our future world. Please help!
