My Students: Reading is a passion, not only for myself but for my students. I am Reading teacher on a Title One school in New York City. I teach struggling readers who are always eager to learn.

One of the greatest delights in teaching reading is literature circles. This is when a group of children take responsibility for their education. The interesting thing is that children will plead to go into these circles. However, books have become an issue. My school simply does not have a selection of high interest books.

My Project: The solution is a variety of mystery books by Carole Marsh. This author uses moments in history to write mystery books for children, rather than using a textbook to teach about Jamestown or Williamsburg we can explore using these chapter books. Imagine a child who is actually absorbed in their reading and acquiring knowledge at the same time. The Mystery at Chocolate Town Hershey just seems like the perfect book to hook the children into reading. Who does not like the thought of a chocolate town or has not eaten a Hersey bar?

Children are amazing! Children who want to read good literature are fascinating. I know these books would have an enormous impact of the education of my students. Thank you for your consideration. hide»

My students need a selection of mystery books, such as The Mystery at Jamestown, Mystery at Mount Vernon, Mystery at Williamsburg, and The Mystery in Chocolate Town Hershey. details»
