I Need To Record My Data, Where's My Notebook?

My students need 72 (12 pkgs of 6) spiral notebooks for recording information.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like before Iphones and Blackberrys when you actually had to write something down to keep it straight and organized?

Technology today is so advanced and constantly changing which is awesome for science students, but the down side of that is that not every 7th and 8th grade "Eco-Tiger" student in my class is fortunate enough to have an Iphone to record every little detail.

My Project

Our science department is definitely not equipped with the latest technology to record experiments, notes, and data collected, especially not out in the field for an Ecology class. So, what do we do? Old School, paper and pencil! Since the students in our building have really been pushing "going green" and doing what they can for the environment, an ecology class seemed a logical choice, and the students agreed. They are so excited about it and what we will be doing. The activities will be in and out of the lab including field trips to different ecosystems. In our rural community, we are fortunate to have many diverse ecosystems very close to the school. They will be testing and analyzing water and soil samples, analyzing air quality in and around the building, involved in dendrochronology activities (tree rings), topography, and many more. The learning opportunities will be awesome, but there is just one problem. We need notebooks to record all the data!

Our needs are simple, spiral notebooks.

Can we cope without them, yes. BUT, with them, the journey learning about their community and its ecosystems will be so much more rewarding with their own notebook to keep and use as a reference as they get older. Funding this proposal will put the resource they need directly in their hands. Who knows? Maybe one day, one of my Eco-Tiger students will find the solution to fixing the hole in the ozone and you can feel proud that you were part of that!
