My Students

Magic carpet ride to learn the different continents and the states of the United States.

I have 20 students.

I teach gifted and talented students as well as ELL students. I teach at a public school in Texas. I have a mixed variety of races and gender in my classroom. It is a good population of students. They are eager to learn and like a sponge. Having these carpets in my classroom will only help increase their learning.

My Project

By putting my students on a magic carpet ride they will be able to use this on a daily basis as well as center time. I will have games to play that will incorporate them learning the states and continents as well as the major oceans. We sing songs about the continents, oceans, and states and we can point to the places as we sing the songs. I also have a world blow up globe that we throw to each other to learn the continents and oceans.

Taking this beyond the old boring globe we have this will help the students have a passion for geography of the United States as well as the world.

So many people do not know where the states or continents are. I want to encourage the students to use maps when they do not know where a particular place is. This will hopefully make them more aware of geography and where places are in the world and United States.
