My Students

Writing implements are one of the most basic needs for students in classrooms. If a student cannot write then he/she cannot participate!

Many of my students come from low economic circumstances.

They leave school to put in a full evening of work to help out their families. Most of my students go on to college, many are the first in their families to go. For these students who are the first, they have no example of how to prepare for college except for their teachers. Many students want to do well but struggle to make ends meet and so basic school materials take second place on their shopping list.

My Project

Writing is essential. This grant would gives students the basic materials needed for writing. Imagine a student who walks into a classroom without a pen or pencil. They cannot participate in even the simplest of exercises. Now, hand them a pencil and a note card. They are off and running! They have the ability to communicate through writing, participate in classroom exercises and discussions. They are able to form their thoughts and have a say in this classroom!

Pencils and note cards are so basic but so important.

For many students giving them a simple pencil and note card tells the students that they are worth the effort, that their education counts. Giving a student the basic implements for education is one of the most important things that you can do for a child!
