My Students: Imagine being able to send a child on a weekly field trip or to help a child learn science in a hands-on fashion. That is what my project aims to do. Through Weekly Readers, children are taken outside of the classroom on a weekly basis to experience the world around them.

My students are precious five year olds with a love of learning. They come from middle to low income backgrounds. They have loving parents who want their children to have as many learning opportunities as possible. Unfortunately, most of my student's parents do not have the financial resources to provide these experiences. That is where you can help me provide extra opportunities for learning.

My Project: Weekly Readers are child friendly magazines that are brightly colored with exciting pictures which really catch my students' attention. Weekly Readers cover many academic areas such as science, social studies, math, and language arts. My children love having their own Weekly Reader to read and then take home and share with their parents. I will usually introduce our newest edition of Weekly Reader on Wednesdays. My students look forward to "Weekly Reader Wednesday" with almost as much enthusiasm as "Show and Tell Friday" and that is saying a lot!

Many of my students will never be exposed to much outside of our rural county. Weekly Reader opens my students' horizons and gets them excited about learning of the world that awaits them beyond our county limits. The Hands-On Science book will help me augment the science themes covered in our Weekly Readers. You have the opportunity to help a child discover a world outside of the small county we live in. hide»
