My Students

I love using technology in my classroom because my students love technology. Unfortunately, the funding for new technology is scarce.

I teach at a high poverty school on a large military base in Texas.

Over half of the student population qualifies for free or reduced lunch. 98% of our students have parents on active duty in the military, many of who are deployed in a hostile situation. Because of the nature of military life, I have students coming and going all year.

My Project

I am requesting 5 sets of headphones, a 5-way headphone splitter, and an iPod Nano to use as a listening center in my classroom. Our classes will be longer this year, so I am hoping to be able to use part of the time that I see my students to do learning centers. One of these centers will hopefully be a listening center where the students can listen to clips of music while following a listening map to help them understand what they are hearing. It will also provide a small group setting for the students to discuss what they hear and see.

I love my job, I love my students, and I want to make sure that they get the best education I can give them.

I want to give my students the opportunity to learn to appreciate all types of music regardless of when it was written. I want to give them the opportunity to choose what they want to learn about. The items I am requesting will allow my students to do that. The students will be able to take ownership of what they are learning, and will remember it.
