Storytelling is an important part of second grade. This project will give my students a way to tell their stories digitally, orally and through the creation of a portfolio.
I teach at a charter school that focuses on immigrant, refugee and neighborhood students.
Last year my class represented the countries of Bosnia, Columbia, England, Germany, Greece, India, Iraq, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, and the United States of America. Over 90% of our school receives free or reduced lunch.
My Project
Voice Thread is an online program where students make comments on pictures to tell a story. Using our netbooks, students can record their voices to narrate their pictures. When a Voice Thread is finished other students can go to the Voice Thread and respond. Your generosity will help my students use their voices to tell the important stories of their lives.
The binders and page protectors will be used to create portfolios to summarize the second grade experience. Throughout the year students select pieces of work that show their successes. These pieces are gathered in the portfolio where students provide a reflection of their work. At the end of second grade they have a collection of their work that provides a reflective experience of second grade.
Through your gifts my students will have opportunities for storytelling and reflection throughout the school year.
By telling their stories both digitally and in print my students will have the wonderful experience of having their voice be heard.
