My Students

My students face multiple challenges within their sensory systems. Some have poor fine or gross motor skills. Others have a weak vestibular system. All of these problems make sitting, writing, and just about everything at school really difficult for them!

My students are fabulous!

They are Kindergarten, First, and Second graders. They have learning handicaps like: autism, mental retardation, auditory and visual processing disorders, ADHD, sensorimotor integration disorders, and speech and language disorders. They work really hard in school, but the simplest concepts are difficult for them to learn. For most of them, their learning handicap is complicated by one type of sensory issue or another.

My Project

My students need sensory tools such as a slantscript board and a barswing to regulate their systems so they can learn!The sensory resources I would like as a part of my classroom will greatly benefit my students on a daily basis. Some of the materials, like the slant board and tracing papers will help students with poor fine motor skills and visual processing disorders to improve their writing skills and their visual tracking skills. The "swing bar" will easily fit into my classroom and provide a space for students to swing throughout the school day, as needed, without having to leave the room. Many students on the autism spectrum benefit from swinging to regulate their systems.

These tools will greatly benefit all of my students on a daily basis.

They will improve fine motor skills, writing, visual processing, and help students to maintain their focus on tasks throughout the school day.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
