My Students: Sweet success, what a beautiful thing! If only we could observe this success all of the time! Our classroom is full of wonderful pieces of finalized writing, created after learning and writing through the writing process. We have one problem. We run out of room to actively display our hard work!

My hardworking students are in third, fourth, and fifth grade. They rotate in a cluster through my writing classroom, a reading classroom, and a math classroom. They vary in interest, personality, and ability. Some of the many pieces of writing that we create include narrative stories, expository essays, poetry, persuasive letters, and even research papers.

My Project: Motivation plays a positive role in my classroom. My students work hard to use what they learn in the writing classroom to write and create wonderful stories and pieces of writing. When a student has finalized a piece of writing, we try to celebrate this as a success. We highlight each student with a few minutes to share their writing, and we discuss their "glows," or things that we love about their writing. Unfortunately, after the few moments that they have to share, their writing is placed in a portfolio, and is no longer viewed by the students. I really enjoy seeing how proud the students are when sharing, especially after a lot of frustration during the process. I help them to strive to get better with each finalized piece.

With the funding of this project, and your help, my students would be able to display their writing pieces and books that they create in class. These pieces would be able to be out in the open for all students and visitors to our classroom to see.

The revolving bookcase is essential in continually motivating my students to put in their best effort. I plan on using this to celebrate each final draft, and hold ceremonies when a new piece is added to the shelf. Writing can be frustrating for many students, especially if they struggle with reading as well. Your assistance would help my students realize that their writing is worth something, and would excite them to prove that they can be a successful writer! hide»
