Ghosts. Witches. Vampires. Monsters of all shapes and sizes. The horror genre is endlessly fascinating to my English classes. It's also a genre that is under-represented in our school today. There are are some major impediments to getting the books that these students need to engage and learn!
Our high school's library has not received funding from the state the past five years.
The titles available to the students are becoming woefully out of date. My own classroom's lending library is full of vibrant reading materials that excite and engage, but there are only so many books to go around.
My Project
My students need a variety of 13 scary, spooky stories at various reading levels to hook them into reading. I would like to supplement my classroom's lending library for the benefit of my college-bound readers with a variety of horror titles. By having exciting new books readily available, my students will have the opportunity to increase their reading levels through the amount of time they spend reading and the types of books they are able to read.
Your help will ensure that these kids are exposed to many different kinds of literature.
