Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I use sand to teach coping skills to children with Autism! Help my students decrease anxiety! Tactile touch is a great therapy tool. Please help make this project a reality!

The children I see are from K-12th grade.

Some have Autism others have emotional disabilities and many have physical handicaps. Our school is located in a low income neighborhood and almost 100 percent of our students qualify for free lunch. The school is a special education school and we push to prepare the children to enter an inclusive general education environment.

My Project

Moon sand is a great tool for children. I find that play dough dries out quickly and regular sand does not have the same tactile feel as moon sand. I am requesting moon sand and bins to store the moon sand. We do not have a sand box at school, and so these portable sand boxes will be the perfect answer. Moon sand is ideal because it is easily shaped and it will not dry out.

Using Moon sand helps my students develop coping skills, it is a great way to decrease anxiety.

Moon sand helps to develop creativity , they can use there minds to sculpt out their fears, anxiety and general emotions.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
