This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember being in the classroom and straining to see what was on the overhead--or when the bulb burnt out just as the lesson was beginning??? I have been told that overhead projectors are obsolete technology, yet the district isn't going to replace them with Elmo--what a quandary!

My kids are the BOMB!!!

They are bright, inquisitive, and challenging. They attend an inner city high school that has a lot of it's own challenges. They have to ignore the lure of the "streets" and push themselves to do better. Every year they continue to strive to improve themselves and in doing so make me want to do the same. It is an absolute privilege and joy to work with my kids.

My Project

Because my kids challenge me, I need to keep up with them. With the aid of Donors Choose I have been able to build my classroom to meet the needs of these techno savvy kids. The Elmo is the last of the "teaching tools" to replace the broken down vestiges of the overhead projector. This will give the kids the ability to stand and present their own original documents. It is so important that the kids learn to use technology and get comfortable with it. Overhead projectors are not as "focused" as the Elmo which with the projector will allow kids to see things on the "big screen."

The goal of my class is to prepare my kids for college.

The more access they have to technology and how well they can use it will make a real difference in moving them forward. It is hard to move kids from the "ghetto" into 4 year universities and making sure they are on equal par with their "township" students is important to me. I want them to have the same advantages other kids do and Donors Choose continues to make that possible. As stated before, my kids are the BOMB--enough said!
