Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"I don't sing because I'm happy, I'm happy because I sing."- W. James This is how children feel when they have opportunities to sing.

My students are primarily Hispanic from a low economic background.

Many students are second language learners. Most of them have few experiences outside of our area or school. Many have not been exposed to nursery rhymes and chants due to parent's lack of English language skills. The school provides many opportunities for the students, through after school programs and school events. The students are always eager to learn.

My Project

Music is a powerful tool that engages the mind. What better way to enhance a child's learning than through music. With these CDs the students will learn basic concepts in reading, math, and science. Through the music their creativity will be stimulated and enable them to retain concepts learned like skip counting and rhyming. The CDs will also be set up as a center so they can read and sing along with it. The novelty of singing instead of the traditional methods engages more students particularly second language learners. It also engages a different part of the brain, to enhance learning for all students.

Through educational songs the students will be engaged and retain basic concepts.

The students will have many opportunities to practice basic concepts in a different way... through the music. They will have a love for learning and music.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
