My Students

Have you ever felt like you were living life in slow motion while the world rushed on around you? This is how struggling readers feel on a daily basis.

Our rural Georgia school is a family environment.

Our students and teachers are enthusiastic and team oriented. Our poverty ratio is ever increasing due to the downturn in the economy. Class sizes are on the rise, so it is more and more difficult to give the individual attention that students need.

My Project

MP3 players will allow struggling readers to listen and read or provide repetition for assigned classroom reading. They will be on top of reading assignments and will be able to participate in class discussions instead of feeling left behind. They will be inspired to be active learners instead of passive listeners. They will also increase their reading fluency.

Struggling readers, especially those in middle grades, tend to withdraw and give up quickly.

These students need an opportunity to be engaged and active learners instead of "hiding in plain view". All students deserve the opportunity to be a part of discussion and to enjoy classic and contemporary literature.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
