My Students

Could you imagine not being able to cope with your feelings in a healthy manner, let alone not even being able to identify your feelings? Most of my students have never been taught to identify their feelings, let alone how to cope with their feelings in a healthy manner.

My students are the most amazing bunch of kids!

They come various backgrounds, places and experiences! My students have Asperger’s Syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, High-functioning Autism and related disorders. A majority of our children are inner-city kids who come from families living below poverty level. My school's program is designed to fulfill the academic, social, emotional and physical needs of children with special needs. We are committed to providing an extraordinarily safe & nurturing learning environment where all children can reach their full potential. Most of my students have come from a "typical" school environment where they were unsuccessful academically and most often struggled to fit in socially. At our school these same kids who struggled in a mainstream setting blossom both academically and socially!

My Project

My position at the school is the Behavior Specialist. I work with the students both in group settings and one on one crisis interventions. The bean bag chairs will be wonderful for groups and crisis intervention. Bean bag chairs can be calming for children with ADHD and Asperger's due to the bean bag chairs encompassing the child's body. Being able to utilize bean bag chairs in the group setting will take away some of the formality of the school setting which will allow the children to feel more at ease during the group. The fidgets and calming products will provide the children with a toolbox of items to choose from during times of crisis as well as help the students remain on task and focused during groups!

Some of my students really struggle with expressing themselves and their feelings.

When a child is given an item to "fidget" with this tends help the child take down his/her wall and allow the child to open up and share his/her feelings. These items will provide my students with a much-needed toolbox to aid them in their calming and refocusing efforts.
