Get In Motion With Science

My students need a variety of force and motion supplementary materials to improve their literacy in science.

My Students

The challenge that my students encounter during science class is limited materials. Since my students are low achievers and lack adequate communication skills, they would benefit by having supplies and equipment to assist in increasing their literacy skills in science.

My school is located in an impoverish drug infested high crime rate neighborhood in the third largest city in the US.

On the way to school, my students have to walk by many boarded up houses and dilapidated buildings. In a class of 36 students, the majority of my students come from single parent homes where education is usually not the first priority for the family. My students are impacted in a negative way by their environment. They have limited communication skills and exhibit anti-social behavior during school. Most of the students do not perform well on standardized tests. I want my students to enjoy their school environment and have a love for science!

My Project

As a science teacher, I always look for new avenues for assisting my students in eliminating behavior that sabotages the instructional atmosphere in the classroom. The reason for my request is the resources will empower my students and allow them to achieve in the area that most of my students fail in the school. Based on the state goals and standards, my students need to be able to identify observable forces in nature and be able to demonstrate and explain how forces cause actions and reactions. These resources will change the lives of my students because they can conduct inquiry investigations using these supplementary materials that would help them learn how to be problem solvers and dispel some of the negative behavior. These supplies will help the students become more literate in that area in science. My students would be able to communicate their findings in a positive way. The science process learned with this project can be transferred in other science concepts.

This project is important because the activities will be utilized in the manner that my students learn best.

Since my students are low achievers, this project coincides with the interests of my students. The impact that the project will have on the students is it gives them a chance to have fun while learning. This project also, provides them with an opportunity to learn to interactive with each other in a positive way and curtail the anti-social behavior.
