My Students

Once I finish reading a book aloud, all my students want to be the next to read it. It quickly gets snatched up and then gets mixed into our classroom collection. This bookstand will help keep these special books easily accessible and highly visible for all to use and enjoy.

My 25-30 first graders are a group of very diverse learners in a suburban public school.

We are a Title One school with over half of our students receiving free or reduced lunches and breakfasts. My students have always loved books and I always try to instill in my students a love of reading. In this year as they are learning to become readers, they do indeed love books...especially ones they've heard me read to them.

My Project

My students will want to look at certain books again and again and having easy access to these books will help them greatly. I picture my students hovering around this bookstand searching through the collection for their favorites. And I see them spending a lot of time reading and enjoying their best-loved books.

As a first grade teacher, the greatest gift I can give my students is a love for reading.
