My Students

Have you ever sat in a class and thought the teacher must be speaking in a different language because you don't understand a thing they are saying? This is often the case for students in a Physics class. Please help me provide a different physics learning experience for my students.

Our school is a charter school for K-12 children diagnosed with ADHD, Aspergers or High Functioning Autism.

I teach the high school science classes for these energetic, interesting mix of students. As all children do well with hands-on activities our students thrive and require these types of lessons. I am always looking for ways to bring the learning out of the textbooks and into their hands.

My Project

These supplies will aide the students in the study of physics. They will literally put the learning into the students hands. Students will see and feel that some things do not happen as their minds think they should, such as the effects of force on objects. The torque feeler will help to give hands-on understanding of concepts such as the difference between torque and force. The carts and air puck will bring real-life examples of Newton's laws of motion which students will be able to link to their current knowledge base.

Most importantly it will make learning physics less scary and more enjoyable; encouraging them to partake in more science classes and activities.

Making the learning fun and easier to understand in turn makes the students want to learn more! In the end as I tell my students "if you walk away from my class with one thing, I hope I teach you the love of learning."
