My Students

Help me prepare my students for the 21st century global workforce and to succeed in a global society. In order to be successful, I need to teach my students how to collaborate within groups and to use digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information to manage projects.

My students are low performing students who are faced with a diversity of challenges that impede their learning.

My students have multiple learning styles and individual needs that need to be addressed. Less that half of the students have computers available at home or access to the Internet. The school is in a rural area that has been impacted greatly by a loss of manufacturing jobs in the area. My classroom does have a few desktop computers connected to the Internet. While these computers are used extensively, they do not provide the flexibility to be moved and used in group projects. The school is going wireless and wireless laptops will be able to be used in my classroom.

My Project

Technology will be the tool that will be used for collaboration in the 21st Century workplace. In order to prepare, students need hands on experience in using technology to collaborate and work on projects in groups. While technology will be ever changing, the skills needed to work as groups and with a variety of people will be an important skill needed in the 21st Century. With the flexibility of a laptop, I plan to have my students work in various projects in groups. They will have to investigate and find information, and use this information to prepare an interactive presentation to share with classmates here and globally. One project I have already planned, involves measurement. The students will investigate, as groups, the different units used to measure, video common objects used to measure with the units and present it to the class on various programs available on the Internet. Each student will be responsible for contributing to the project and posting information.

This project will allow my students the flexibility to collaborate with each other, improve technology skills and investigate and implement the variety of programs available on the Internet.

By using this laptop, they will be able apply critical thinking skills and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources which will help them be competitive in the 21st Century workforce.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
