My Students

Have you ever wondered what it was like living in the midst of the Great Depression? My students want to know, and John Steinbeck has painted the picture for them!

My students range in age from 13-19.

They hail from rural, mostly agricultural-based homes. More than half of my students are from homes that struggle with poverty. Augmenting my lesson plans with novels and other genres of literature help subject matter come alive.

My Project

John Steinbeck's novel, "The Grapes of Wrath" follows the Joad family as they trek westward from Oklahoma to California--a whispered land of promise and potential in times of desperation and despair. Students are able to gain a fundamental understanding of the troubles and tribulations faced by the American sojourner in Steinbeck's classic book.

All high school students should read this book and with your donation, my whole class will be able to do just that.
