My Students

War. What is it good for? Absolutely nothin'!" These words may sum up the feeling that many people have; however, war has been a fact of life since human history began. It's important that students understand the many facets of war, including the toll it takes on the human psyche.

My students come from a very rural community, where farming and other forms of agriculture dominate life.

The nearest large city is over 250 miles away. Because of this fact, many of my students' exposure to museums, cultural activities, and knowledge outside their small bubble is very limited.

My Project

Tim O'Brien's book "The Things They Carried" is a must-have for anyone who wants to know more about the American presence in the Vietnam War. This war is one that is cloudy for many people to understand. Even historical texts have a difficult time, it seems, bringing the cause of American involvement clearly in the minds of students.

Veterans of the Vietnam War deserve as much honor and respect as veterans of other wars.

This book shares the impact of what these men were forced to "carry" with them during the war and for their lives once the war ended. By donating to this worthwhile cause, you'll be helping me to open this enigmatic door for students. Thank you in advance!
