This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I refer to my 2nd grade students as the "Brilliant Backpackers" because our classroom theme is traveling around the world. Backed by our motto of "Work Hard. Get Smart. Go Far." We are both using and celebrating our mastery of state standards as we make our way around the world.

Despite the many challenges that face students growing up in a high-needs community, the "Brilliant Backpackers" are invested in their own education because they know that performing well in the classroom affords them endless opportunity in the world at large.

Clearly, reading tops their list of priorities.

My Project

In order to make the Brilliant Backpackers' learning experiences as authentic as possible I need to provide them with high-interest texts for independent use. The Little Miss and Mr. Men series captivate students' attention with their quirky stories and illustrations--they will provide the Brilliant Backpackers with countless hours of reading fun.

This set of Little Miss and Mr. Men books will help students celebrate diversity and explore various aspects of citizenship.

Furthermore, the texts will positively impact our class goal of becoming lifelong readers and learners!
