Camp Read A Lot Needs Books!!!!!!

My students need 2 copies each of 29 beginning chapter books, such as "Henry and Mudge" and "Fancy Nancy".

My Students

Reading is exciting for my first graders and to keep the momentum going they desperately need beginning chapter books to set the stage for more challenging books. This is a tough transition from easy beginning books to chapter books and this will set my students up for success.

I teach first grade at a Title 1 school in Tennessee.

Our school has 75% of the students on free or reduced breakfast and lunches. My students are very eager to learn but many parents don't have the means to introduce a wide range of literature. My job is to provide them with every opportunity to read and learn all that they can by the time they leave my classroom.

My Project

This year I will be implementing a program called the daily 5. This program teaches the students to be independent readers using many different books. I need these beginning chapter books to help the transition from easy books to chapter books. My students will be learning to read with partners therefore I need two of each book plus I hope to have every book used during their independent reading time. I choose these two series to grab all interest levels of girls and boys this year and years to come.

Reading is key in first grade and my passion is to have all 23 students love reading by the end of the year.

I hope these beginning chapter books are a spring board into their future as life long readers who have the confidence to take on any book/genre of their choice. Also, these books will be here for future students to catch the reading bug through Henry and Mudge and Fancy Nancy adventures!
