My Students

Our school has a media retrieval system allowing us to broadcast live throughout the school. Students are interested in going beyond just announcing upcoming events. They would like to create a morning news show with interviews and features to help increase participation and school spirit.

RMS is a typical rural NC middle school: grades 6-8.

We have a diverse population consisting of approximately 50% white, 40% African American, and 10% Hispanic and Asian. A close community; we are very proud of our caring and compassionate students: the majority of which have known their classmates since kindergarten. Our students are not as technologically savvy as many urban students of the 21st century, but the are bright and eager to lean.

My Project

Having an up-to-date video camera will allow students to produce a morning new show which will be broadcast via our media retrieval system throughout the school. This show will go beyond just morning announcements. The camera will allow students to prerecord and edit interviews that will be aired during the morning show. Students will learn how to find and report on stories that will create an interesting morning show. It is our hope that by increasing awareness of school related activities school spirit and participation will also increase.

Students involved in the show will learn to find, edit, and report news.

They will learn to use the camera to tape and edit stories. A live broadcast will help students to become comfortable with public speaking. The entire student body will benefit from this donation by having a news program which keeps them informed about school events. For students that are part of an event, the morning news show will allow them a change to shine and be recognized in front of the whole school.
