Sizzling Sunshine State Reading

My students need a set of the 2010 - 2011 Sunshine State Readers books to read.

My Students

Sunshine State students get a chance to read and vote for their favorite book. What better way to motivate young readers, by asking their opinion on what book they enjoyed the most.

My students are eager to learn.

They are a diverse group of learners, coming from all different types of backgrounds. Together they work to challenge themselves and even me to explore new ideas and new thoughts. Our school is one of the oldest and largest schools in our city. Many parents have come through these halls before their children and we are rooted in tradition.

My Project

Each year, librarians and media specialists pick 15 books for Sunshine State students to read throughout the academic school year. Students are challenged to read at least 3 of these books so they can vote on the book they enjoyed reading the most. Reading itself can be adventurous, but reading and being able to vote for your favorite books is quite and experience. On many levels this is a worthy learning experience. Not only motivating students as readers, but students as citizens. How many times in their adult lives will they be asked to vote? They get this chance early on and they see the impact that their own vote makes. I have requested 1 copy of each of these books to have in our classroom. I want to make these books as available as possible. I also requested some reading response teacher resources, so as I read these books out loud the students can respond with creative activities.

Again, students are actively participating in a statewide reading vote.

Students are able to have their voices be heard over their favorite book. You can help provide access to these books in our classroom. Our school is so large and these books are the first ones to be checked out. I would like to give my students a better chance to embark on a reading adventure. You help is vital.
