My students need 12 table top easels and 12 large easels to display their art work in the school.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"You are such a good artist!" We want our children to believe it when we tell them that. Stapling a photo or drawing to a bulletin board just doesn't do it the same way a real artist's display easel in the lobby of our school can.

Our students are from the inner city.

We are a title one public school so many of our students live below the poverty line and live in the local government housing. Our students are predominately African-American and Hispanic. We are connected with a local arts organization that works very closely with us to expose our children to different art forms, i.e. music, dance, photography, theater, etc. Our children have shown that they are very artistic. They love and look forward to our arts program.

My Project

In our arts program the children always create their own art work. We have created a share day for all of the participating classes. We create our own museum when the art work is tangible, i.e. paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs. We want the children to see that their work is as important as the published works of art we are studying. Having easels will show the children to see that we value their inspirations, choices, imagination, and work as an artist. We will be having a photography show this fall. We will be choosing the best photograph from each participating class to be displayed in our lobby for several weeks.

First and foremost this project will help develop children's self confidence.

It will not be limited to just their art skills. By feeling confident in this one area they will feel that they can be successful in other areas so they will try to tackle new projects. We will show the children we value their work and their artistic process. We will also have an opportunity to beautify our school with our own student's work.
