This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I came across Nimmo's first novel by accident at the bookstore and was intrigued by the cover and the write-up. I read the book and was hooked and knew I had to share this book with my students.

My students attend a school in a low-income neighborhood infested with several rival gangs and two blocks away from the county jail.

Despite their grim views from our classroom windows, our attendance rate is over 98% - which is high for many of our middle-schoolers.

My Project

I shared this novel first with one of my reluctant readers to take home over the weekend to just "review it" to see what he thought. Surprisingly, he came back Monday morning requesting "Part Two." He did a wonderful job of promoting the book and soon thereafter, there was a waiting list to check the book out from my classroom library.
