My Students

Our math department is a "worksheet" curriculum and many are having a hard time grasping the concepts we are teaching. I want to eventually get to the point in teaching where I never hear "Why am I learning this?" because they are so involved and are loving what they are learning!

I just completed my first year teaching at a Title 1 Charter School.

More than 80% of my students are on free and reduced lunch. They are amazing little people who deal with daily challenges and for some, school is the only time that they get to enjoy just being a kid. Being on a "worksheet curriculum," as well as lack of funds, minimizes my ability to really engage my students in activities and give them the tools that they need in order to succeed.

My Project

Having hands on activities for geometry will have a considerable impact in my students' learning capabilities. They will be able to correlate and relate the subject to real life. Having these work stations will open doors in their lives and give them opportunities to see how important geometry and shapes are to every day life and jobs. Being able to comprehend geometry in our world will give my students a fundamental advantage in their future jobs.

With the use of these activities, my students will embark in discovering math in amazing new ways.

They will intensifying their desire and ambition for math that will, hopefully, surprise many of my students!
