My Students

Science is real, but many of the topics facing my students are abstract and difficult to observe: the atom, the solar system, and internal body systems. They also learn about simple machines, but without machines to test, those principles are easily forgotten.

My fifth graders are low-income, high-motivation students.

Several are gifted, primarily in a spatial sense, so they learn best with highly visually interesting materials. Many of my students speak two languages, so it is vital that they learn through more than books whose words they may not know.

My Project

My students need models and experiment kits to understand body systems, simple machines, the solar system and moon phases, and basic molecular structure. By providing my students with these hands-on, visually interesting materials, you will help them build an understanding of abstract concepts. I will be able to enrich my lessons with experiments and demonstrations that will inspire my gifted students and help even those with learning disabilities to visualize and internalize these essential scientific concepts.

Science is real, and it is important for the future of our planet and beyond that children learn how it works.

In my classroom, students will work experiments to understand how science works, and understand science as a way of knowing. These hands-on models will help students construct an understanding of those concepts which are difficult to directly observe from an elementary classroom. Thank you for supporting our class.
