This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine three or four sports games being played at the same time and the yearbook staff needs pictures of each event. It sounds easy. You have 12 yearbook students who all want to take pictures at the games, but wait -- you only have ONE camera!

We are a small rural school in Arizona.

The yearbook is developed by Jr. Hi. students who take the pictures, sort them, upload them and put together the yearbook pages. The technology skills they acquire through this process are amazing. Each year 10 to 12 students are chosen to work on the school yearbook.

My Project

My students need 2 digital cameras to take pictures for the school yearbook. Right now very few students actually work on the yearbook process, because the bulk of the job is taking quality photos to use in the yearbook. With additional cameras, the students will have enough pictures to choose only the best pictures for the yearbook. (We currently have to use all pictures we take.) Through the process of making the yearbook, students learn to take quality digital pictures, choose pictures of the best quality, upload the pictures, arrange the pictures on the page, and understand the importance of consistency and quality in work.

This project means the difference between one student experiencing the process per game, and three students having the experience per game.

We have recently started a school Web site and teachers are constantly asking to borrow the only digital camera the school has. This means that other cameras are available for other teachers to use during the school day to take pictures of their class events.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
