Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We have a large classroom that was built spaciously to accommodate a large group of Kindergarten students, however due to budget cuts, I cannot get any additional furniture for my classroom. Generous donors on Donors Choose have purchased us LOTS of books and we have no place to store them!
I teach in a high-need community in New Mexico.
Our school is Title One and serves 100% free lunch and breakfast. I have 22 very eager-to-learn Kindergarten students and they love to read! Throughout our year we enjoy cooking, taking care of our 11 class pets, reading, studying authors, doing science experiments and inquiry based projects, singing, dancing, writing stories, learning about our friends and the world around us, and most importantly learning to take care of one another. Books are a huge part of our world, and although emergent in our reading, WE are PROUD of our accomplishments and the foundation for the life-long love of reading and literature is being built! We are so appreciative to the generous donors on Donor's Choose, you are helping us learn and grow!
My Project
Having book shelves will make books accessible at all times to my students. We are so grateful for all the books we've received on this site! We have received many favorites including Eric Carle, Don and Audrey Wood, Art Books galore, and many other classics to cherish in our classroom library. Our district is experiencing a 43 million dollar budget cut this year and funds are very tight. Getting books and furniture is out of the question. I am requesting Library Furniture and Dr. Seuss books because I know that in order to foster a life-long love for reading, my students must have exposure to books both at school and at home. I have many books for students to check out and borrow, however limited shelving has made it so many of these books must be housed in an area out of reach to my students. I would love to have a set up where my students can reach many different books easily including non-fiction and fiction books. I feel having a set of Dr. Seuss classics is a necessity!
Thank you for enriching our literature rich environment once again.
You are making a huge difference in the lives of sweet, smart, and deserving children. Thanks from the bottom of our hearts!
