My Students

Science and science fiction go hand in hand! While students blast off rockets in science and design spaceships, help support my students explore the possibility of colonizing Mars with Ray Bradbury's science fiction book, "The Martian Chronicles."

I am proud to teach my seventh and eighth graders.

Everyone is warm and friendly at my school. Considering how diverse my students are, I'm amazed how well they respect each others' differences. Everyone greets each other with a smile. My kids always lend a helping hand when I'm setting up labs or carrying something heavy. My students are spirited and love to learn. They especially enjoy getting their hands dirty while they play with lab materials. They also have a great appetite for new books. Anything dealing with fantasy or science fiction they eat up!

My Project

My language arts teacher and I want to team up on a collaborative astronomy project. We thought Mars would be an exciting topic because we all dream of visiting other alien worlds. In science we will explore the physics of rocketry by designing and testing 2 liter bottle rockets. Also, we will research the issues of terraforming Mars. In language arts, students will apply what they have learned in science while they read Bradbury's "The Martian Chronicles." At the end of their reading, students will participate in a debate about colonizing an alien planet with life. Overall, students will learn how to form arguments and defend them with scientific data. Students will also understand how science is used to launch spaceships and create human colonies.

we only have two class sets for "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" and "The Outsiders." Our students need to read other genres like science fiction.

"The Martian Chronicles" class set will allow students to explore the ethical issues of colonizing other planets. This will aide students in science while they study space exploration.
