My Students

Imagine growing up and never hearing the sound of music from a violin. That would be the case with my kindergartners. Receiving violins would afford my students the opportunity to not only enjoy the sound of a violin but also to learn to play a violin.

My students are an ethnically diverse group, many of whom are first generation Americans based in New York City.

Most of my students are entitled to free lunch based on the poverty levels established. Our school is a public charter where students are admitted through a lottery. Parents apply to our school to seek an alternative learning environment from their child's zoned school. They are seeking the best educational experience possible. My students enjoy art and music immensely. They are enthusiastic readers and are very receptive to new experiences. I look to expose my students to as many diverse opportunities as possible.

My Project

A new experience on our horizon is a new music teacher who has the ability to teach violin. Our only hurdle is that we presently do not have any violins nor the funds to procure them. The skills and strategies used to play a violin and to read music address many deeper life skills. It is not just a matter of appreciating the violin, but it is the impact this experience brings to a child's life forever.

The impact of these 8 violins is immeasurable.

The entire school, not just the kindergartners, will be benefit from this gift. It is our plan to conduct a concert to expose additional students and grow our music program. Consider this donation the planting of a seed that will nurture an entire garden.
