My Students

Have you ever been able to watch your work on the big screen? My students have. We record many of our projects, to share in our class, as well as other classrooms in our school. We use our Flip camera often to collaborate with other teachers and grades..but we only have one-we need another. Help!

I teach 6th grade science in a Title I school in a high poverty neighborhood in Alabama.

I have a very diverse classroom, including high middle class, low class, gifted, special needs, and all socioeconomic levels and abilities in between. I teach a total of approximately 120 students throughout the day. Students love to use technology in our classes.

My Project

This year, I am incorporating project-based lessons into my Science classes. We will be recording commercials, interviews, and possibly even a weather segment for our morning broadcast team. Introducing the students to project-based learning will broaden and extend their knowledge much more deeply than traditional teaching. I am providing my students with the opportunity to do what they love--get their hands on activities, become experts, and use the latest technology while doing it all! Our one Flip video camera is simply not enough to provide an enriching experience for my students. With your help, we can get another one and double our use of technology in our project-based classroom!

The projects I do in my classroom are used to enhance learning experiences of not only my students, but students in other grade levels as well.

We will use our videos to collaborate with other classes to share our learning with younger students. My students will use our Flip camera to record interviews with experts, record commercials, and other activities. They will be able to view their work and assess themselves and reflect on the work they have done--getting them ready for the real world!
