My Students

"What a Novel Idea!" The title says it all. In order to get my students reading, I like to have them listen to read-alongs while they are following along in the book. This helps build reading fluency, vocabulary, and helps them gain a love for reading.

Our K-8 school is situated in the hills of Middle Tennessee in a low-socioeconomic area.

We have an enrollment of 150 students. My students are taught in a self-contained fourth grade classroom. Being from a small school is a blessing, yet it is a curse at the same time. Most of our funding to purchase enrichment materials is funded by our annual fundraiser. With nine grade levels wanting funds to buy items, necessities come first. I am always looking for alternative ways to purchase items to make learning fun and more enjoyable for my students. DonorsChoose has made this possible for my students in the past.

My Project

These books and CDs will allow my students to improve their reading fluency, learn new vocabulary words, and hopefully gain a love for reading novels. I already have some copies of these novels. With the purchase of these novels and the CDs, my book sets will be complete.

By exposure, I hope to instill a great love for reading in my students.
