Our Japanese language students developed Japanese tea club. We need reference materials to continue studying and develop our tea house and tea garden for the school and community. Students drive from 5 different counties to attend our school which is a free public charter school in beautiful rural NC-located next to the river. We are an environmental science and arts based middle and high school that offers an interdisciplinary curriculum. Classes are small, and we offer a safe environment and challenging curriculum which includes an advanced Japanese language program. Students not only learn language concepts, but actively engage in community cultural projects such as performing the Japanese tea ceremony, developing a Japanese Zen garden and tea house, and running a Japanese cultural booth at the local farmer's market. Our tea study encompasses language, samurai history, waka poetry, traditional calligraphy, pottery, health concepts and performance. We need reference books, music, and many other materials to continue with this project. Thanks so much for your consideration! My Project: The books requested will help students as they practice the tea ceremony in the afternoons, and the music will be a part of the interdisciplinary program with our music program. Students in every class have an opportunity to appreciate our Japanese tea study, and learn appreciation for language, cultural concepts, history, literature, and art. We hope to raise more funds in the future to support our ongoing project while students develop our school Zen garden, tea garden, and tea house. Thank you for helping us with this unique project! Students will gain an appreciation of Japanese culture and many subjects through our tea study. They will be able to share the tea ceremony not only at school but through our cultural booth at the farmer's market, at local cultural events and festivals, and for other schools. Our Japanese language students and tea club is planning to share the tea ceremony with other universities and festivals in other states as well. hide» My students need 12 reference books to aid in our Japanese tea ceremony study and continuation of the tea club which includes developing a tea house and tea garden. details»
