Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"What's an AP class Miss?" My students, for the first time, will be able to take an AP World History class. For many, it will be their first honors class, and for others it represents a real opportunity for a successful outcome.

My students are complex, high needs, moody, spirited, intellectually curious, economically disadvantaged, sassy, educationally marginalized, and fascinating to learn with.

My students are thirsty for knowledge and many aren't sure how to acquire it. This AP World History class represents a real opportunity to expose a group of diligent and hardworking urban young people to higher level, complex thinking. They are a culturally diverse group of people who share common stories.

My Project

My students need cultural capital. The books that have been selected will go far in helping them prepare for the exam itself and serve as excellent enrichment pieces. There are many facets to the AP World History exam and the students are going to have to be well versed in a myriad of topics. In particular, geography and political science are two very important components and students must be able to use them as a lens to observe and critique various historical periods. Frequently my students do very poorly on standardized tests because of vocabulary. The index cards will serve as a study tool as the students develop their vocabulary with each reading.

Your generosity will ensure that the first AP World History class in my urban high school has the necessary supplies for student success.

Because of your donation, my students will be able to investigate canons of historical literature and test prepping material to ensure their successful completion of the course.
