My Students

Imagine you are six years old and walk into your first year of full day school. There are thousands of books on the shelves, imagine what is going through the young mind as the teacher says pick a book.

My students are six years old and love to read.

We are a small school set in the mountains of New Hampshire. My students are taught independence from the first day they walk into the classroom. This independence is taught by using consistent routines.

My Project

I've been inspired by The 2 Sisters: Gail Boushey and Joan Moser to rethink the way I organize and manage my small group reading time. It is called the Daily 5 and is described as a structure that will help students develop the daily habits of reading, writing and working with peers that will lead to a lifetime of independent literacy. These cubbies will assure that every child in my class will have a personalized set of books at their reading level that can be changed weekly as the child grows as a reader.

A favorite quote of The Sisters is: "A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up to make new trees." Your donations will give my little roots the fine beginning to their education that may spring up a new generation of young people who love reading!
