My Students

Remember when drawing was fun? Well it is again in my printmaking class. Even kids who cannot draw are successful when printing. I love to see the "aha" moment when they pull their print off the press.

My students are the best!!

I get them all, the artist, the geek, the jock, the princess, the goof, and everything in between and all manage to learn, get along, and make great prints at the same time. So many have never been good at anything, but when they finish my class they are more confident in themselves and trust their instincts and creativity without being ashamed or shy about it.

My Project

Currently my class is limited to the black, white and red for colors of their prints. We are also using manila paper, which is OK, but will not endure over time. I would like to have them use artist grade water based inks that work like oil base inks. We cannot use oil base due to lack of windows and ventilation in the room.

My print classes are full of students that most teachers take one look at them and cringe when they walk in the room.

Not only do they behave in my room, they learn respect for themselves which in turn helps them respect others. I look at their success in art as a bonus!
