My Students

Can you help us see that learning to read can be engaging and fun? Reading is a journey, one in which the children in my classroom are just beginning. The students are beginning to see themselves as readers and engage with books but need to develop strategies to become independent readers.

This upcoming school year, I will be teaching first grade for the first time to 21 wonderful, energetic hands on learners.

I teach in an Oklahoma A+ school that values the multiple intelligences and individual learner. We are a high poverty school that values each child and their needs but have limited resources to address those needs.

My Project

The Can Do! Reading Games and Roll and Read Games Set will provide materials that allow the children to work with concepts to help them be successful in learning to read in a hands on way. The games will help children develop phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension which are important components to becoming a reader. The games will help children realize that reading can be engaging and fun while giving them strategies to be successful, independent readers.

These children have a foundation and love for reading.
