This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Don't let great story ideas get lost! My creative second graders have vivid imaginations and ideas that they want to incorporate into their creative writing. Some students have a tough time keeping track of so many great ideas while they are trying to put those ideas onto paper.

My second graders are energetic, curious and creative.

They are in a dual-immersion program in a public elementary school. Our school is the heart of a neighborhood of mostly low-income Latino families. Half of our students come from English-speaking families from other neighborhoods in town.

My Project

Every day my second graders create many imaginative stories based on their lives and their dreams. Some students are not yet proficient writers and those students struggle when they lose track of their ideas and narratives while they're trying to get words and sentences on paper. We need a way to capture their ideas and stories as they prepare to write. A digital voice recorder will be an ideal tool for a struggling student. The student can record his or her story ideas and then review the recording as she or he is writing those ideas on paper to be used in a story. Your donation is critical in order to help struggling students find a better way to capture their ideas and dreams verbally before they begin the writing process.

Not only will individual students become better writers, our entire classroom will be enriched.

We will use student stories as new texts for reading and classroom discussions. Students respond with enthusiasm to their own stories and in a dual-immersion classroom those stories help all students build new vocabulary in both languages. With your generosity all of my first graders will get the foundation they need to blossom into strong, confident authors.
