This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What happens to all the writing pieces that children produce year after year - ripped, trashed, never looked at or shared? There is nothing more exciting than seeing your name on something. You own it. You produced it. Help students preserve some of their finest pieces and turn them into authors!

I work for a charter school that services K-12 students.

Our school's mission is to service minority students in the areas of Science, Math, Engineering ,and Technology. We are a Title One School in an inner city surrounded by one of the many project houses in our city. Our students come from low-economic homes. Most of our students come from a single parent house hold. Our parents must fill out a school registration form and go through a lottery system in order to get their child into our school. They must also provide their child with a school uniform. There are three first grades with seventeen students in each classroom. My partners and I always share materials with each other to enhance every child's learning.

My Project

Students love to have ownership over their writing. Once they publish a product, we celebrate by sharing their pieces with other peers and staff. The children are always introduced as "Our next famous author is ____". The laminating and bookbinding machines will allow students to present a final product that looks professional. They can take pride in sharing their books with other authors in the class. Then, they can display them on a class bookshelf and take them home to share with family. These two machines will make student work sturdy and durable.

Some many children simply bring their writing home and trash it without anyone even seeing it.

Let's get these kids excited about their pieces by making them look like real books. They can feel proud to be published like a real author and add their masterpieces to their home library!
