My Students

What's that sound coming from the pond? Even 1 kilometer away you can hear the shrill calls of frogs. This fact and others will motivate students to think about how their bodies and other animals bodies function.

My seventh graders are studying life science, which includes the study of the human body and the kingdom of animals.

We are a school located in a large city, and 82.3% of the students are considered low income. 74% are eligible for free lunch and 10% reduced lunch. Our schools attendance rate is 96.9%. My school is a member of the AVID program. It is also a magnet school that offers a specialized focus on the International Baccalaureate Program. On our 2009 standardized tests, 80% of my 7th grade students met or exceeded standards in Science. My school has met all of the requirements for adequate yearly progress.

My Project

My students need 64 laboratory frogs to dissect in order to enhance their science knowledge and have deeper understanding of cells, organs, and systems. This activity will enhance our learning in the science classroom. It will provide a hands-on learning experience. The project will allow students to examine how adult amphibians have adapted to life on both land and water and their characteristics. Students will then be able to compare and contrast frogs organs to human organs. Without this discussion, students will not be able to have a deeper understanding of their science concepts.

Donations to this request will make a difference by helping not only the students understand the different concepts of the frog, but also motivate students to become more involved in the sciences.

My class would really appreciate the donation that would be made to our classroom. Please help us meet our goal - I already have all the dissecting tools, now all I need are the frogs!
