My students need a Ground Water Flow Table so that they will be able to understand where water goes once it reaches the Earth's surface and disappears out of sight.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
After you fertilize your lawn, what happens to those chemicals when it rains? What happens to the water that soaks into the ground when we water our garden? These are a couple of the questions my students must answer without being able to actually see what's going on below the ground.
My students attend a unique urban school serving students in grades 6-12.
We are a public military academy magnet specializing in honors, advanced placement, foreign language and global leadership classes. Our racial and ethnic diversity adds to their global understanding. Our program stresses the importance of their responsibility for our environment and being knowledgable in order to be effective global leaders.
Most (over 70%)are from low income households where parents frequently work more than one job to keep things going for their families. The young people in my eighth grade science classes need an enriched classroom environment to be able to compete for scholarships.
Most of them have never experienced anything to do with wells and don't know why one would run dry. They are well versed in what happens to surface water, but haven't a clue about ground water. They are, however, eager to learn so that they will be ready for their future roles. They have big dreams!
My Project
With your help, and the requested Groundwater Flow Table, I would be able to give them a more concrete idea of what happens to our water once it disappears into the ground. They would be able to see simulations involving well drilling, changing water tables, and underground aquifers. I could demonstrate the effects of permeable and impermeable rock layers on our water supplies. They would be able to grasp why sinkholes, caverns, geysers and hotsprings form and how they function within the system. They could trace underground water patterns of all types. This knowledge is essential if they are to have the high level of understanding which will inevitably determine their future paths. College scholarships require the high scores that come with that level of understanding. Without those scholarships, most won't have a chance to improve their lives and live their dreams. We will be without the responsible, educated leaders needed to make those hard future decisions for our planet
As potential global leaders, my students must have a thorough knowledge of Earth's entire water system in order to get terrific educations and then, be responsible stewards of our planet.
Recent environmental disasters show how badly they are needed. You could help by donating a Groundwater Flow Table for our classroom. As you consider this request, please know that you would be helping our future leaders deal with the tough challenges they have ahead of them in caring for our Earth.
