My Students

Yellow isn't mellow. Its frustrating! My students get so frustrated by writing with the only markers that are left - the yellow ones. I constantly replenish the markers throughout the year. Cost? Ten dollars per student. That's about how much I spend a year - just on dry erase markers!

I teach at a very rural school.

My students all share a love of expression - verbal, written, artistic, and creative! I want to harness this love of expression and focus it on their educational goals without having to get beyond their initial frustration just because of a simple problem with the color of a marker!

My Project

These markers will be used during Everyday Math lessons, independent learning groups, small group instruction, guided reading, and whole group instruction. In each of these areas, the students work with a dry erase board and a dry erase marker to solve problems, work on words, express their knowledge, and help their peers to reach a higher level of thinking. Students would be able to see what they write on the dry erase boards if they had other colors besides just yellow. They wouldn't reach a level of sheer frustration before their learning even has a chance to evolve.
