My Students

Have you ever been a blue bird, a red bird, or a buzzard? This is how some teachers label their leveled reading groups. Who would want to read if you were a buzzard? Not me and definitely not my students.

My class of second grade students need lots of practice with reading and the elements of reading.

They want to learn but in the urban environment where they live, it is hard to know that education is important. It is more important to know what shoes to wear, who has the biggest television, or if there is going to be food on the table.

My Project

I want to inspire my students with the recipe for excellent reading. By providing them a place to store a book they are reading with the organizer baskets, post-it notes that can stick to places in the book that they want to share or need help with, along with a notebook and dividers so that we can create a reading goal and mark progress as the school year continues, reading will become fulfilling and they will leave my classroom stuffed with a love for reading.

By providing these materials, my students will have a personal space to store their books instead of on top of their desks.

They will have their own set of post-its to help them with their critical thinking. We will also have a notebook showing the progress they have made. It really will be a CAFE- comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and expanding vocabulary- where their lives are enriched with the wonderful attributes of an excellent reader. Please help us have a successful year.
